Marching and chanting now make up much of daily life at Boys State. Some pick it up easily, while others struggle to find their voice.
While Atchafalaya, Cane, and Pearl started strong, some worry that a few of the strong chanters are slowly losing their voices, making them harder to hear.
A couple of parishes, like Mississippi, Bogafalaya, and Sabine, had difficulties at first but are determined to prove they are the best.
It’s anyone’s game now as to who will win the Boys State flag each morning at Summit.
There’s a push from many citizens for more original chanting and songs. While most people like “Red Wagon” or “What is bread?” having to sing them repeatedly has become tiring for some of the citizens.
And while some of the voices are starting to become hoarse and tired, this opens up room for new voices to find their place. Anyone can speak up; all you have to do is have the confidence to step up.
