Are Local Governments Falling Apart?!

With the introduction of the newest positions of power in the local cities of LABS, there are many critical issues that these officials have to face. One of the most affected departments are the school boards, which mainly have to deal with budget cuts. The parish of Atchafalaya has already cut off thirty-two million dollars from their four-hundred million dollar budget on the first day! Cane parish has dealt with forest fires which restricted them from using paper, thus resulting in online school being their main focus. Pearl parish is even taking the extreme decision to “not pay teachers for summer school and stick to online” according to Blake Landreneau, Pearl’s BESE member.

The cities of Louisiana also all have common problems that the governments need to fix. Lack of transportation, elderly who have no one to care for them, and much needed parks are all problems that have been neglected in the past. Some governments are taking these issues in different ways, but all together there are similar trends in the way they are attacking it. Most cities are going with some sort of bus or other form of public transportation. This will also help with the elderly who are not well enough to drive themselves around. The governments also spoke about moving their budgets around to make it feasible for new parks in their area.

These are not the only governments that are facing issues, as parish governments are also dealing with internal and external drawbacks. Cane parish is dealing with a nuclear power plant that may affect its citizens in a negative way. The parish council members Will Stambo and Dade Loyd are fining quarterly to balance out their declining economy. Despite Cane parish seeming to be in deep water, Pearl parish is very close to collapsing. Pearl parish is behind in their major infrastructures as they have no hospitals or universities, and they rely only on their forestry. Pearl parish council member Hayden Singh, even claims that they will invest “however much money [they] need to take a step up.”
