I had the distinct pleasure of talking to both the Federalist and Nationalist state party chairmen. We discussed how they felt their party would fare in the upcoming general election. Both chairmen feel that their party is ready, but for different reasons.
When I talked with Oscar Frith, he stated that he believes his party will win because Federalist candidates are exceptional leaders. Frith, the state party chairman for the Federalists, feels as though this will work to the party’s advantage and help secure the majority of the citizens’ votes. While he feels strongly about the leadership qualities of his party’s candidates, he feels just as strongly about their public speaking skills. While he has not witnessed the Nationalist candidates’ speeches, he feels confident that his party will perform better on the podium than their Nationalist counterparts. When asked about his slate, Frith pointed to candidates the Federalists have already elected: “We have some very great candidates elected, and they showed very good leadership qualities of speaking skills, and I think that’s going to carry them to state office.” After the interview, I was informed by Frith that his handcuffs were not too tight.
Ross Bieber, the chairman of the Nationalist Party, is fully confident in the party’s ability to sweep the elections. He believes that the Nationalist Party will win big this year at Boys State. Ross stated that he has lots of respect for all the men who go up on stage to give a speech. Ross mentioned that he extends this respect to all Federalists as well, but said, “I am a part of the nationalist party, so you know GO NATS.” He also wanted to let everyone know that Verna loves them.
Both chairmen are excited for the upcoming election and wish all candidates the best of luck. We will have to wait and see if their confidence in their candidates pays off.
