A Supreme Court case yesterday morning took an unexpected turn when a justice asked a parish official whom they would be voting for and why in the upcoming state elections. The question was raised in a case concerning whether the parish governments had the authority to temporarily suspend the school board during Tropical Storm Haleigh, with the intent of allocating funds for disaster relief and repair efforts after the storm. While the court ruled in favor of the school board, several citizens present asked why the justices would ask unprofessional questions. During the hearing, there were also several Star Wars references that had no place in the proceedings, as well as other questions that only wasted time. This led some in attendance to feel that the proceedings became less focused on the legal arguments and more on trivial matters. In the end, the justices ruled that the parish government had overstepped its authority by suspending the school board.
