With multiple parishes having mascots stolen this week, there is definitely one parish that has been targeted the most: Mississippi Parish.
Mississippi Parish has had their mascot stolen on no less than two occasions, once by Sabine Parish and another by Bogafalaya Parish.
These thefts appear to be taking a toll on the morale of the parish, as members of Mississippi Parish are trying to introduce a bill to outlaw mascot theft for all parishes. The Daily Magnolia interviewed a member of the chamber in which the bill was introduced in but chose to keep his name, parish, and chamber anonymous in order to protect his privacy.
Our source stated that “members of Mississippi have been unable to protect their mascot from being stolen, so they’re resorting to trying to pass laws to do so instead.” When asked what he thought of the idea, he said, “Mississippi can’t protect their mascot. If it gets stolen, it’s their fault.” Our insider source is a firm believer in mascot theft and parish rivalry, stating previously that he has actually engaged in mascot theft before and that it’s quite fun.
Mascot theft has been a very split topic this week, with some parishes endorsing it and others condemning the act. The Daily Magnolia has no stance on the act of mascot theft.
