Hurricane Aiden will soon leave a path of destruction and devastation, and in the midst of this destruction lies Louisiana’s only two nuclear power plants. Lafourche’s power plants will be directly hit by the hurricane within minutes of landfall, and Franklin’s power plant will be hit within hours of landfall.
While is it difficult to predict the exact damage to the plant, it is possible that both Falaya river and the Gulf of Mexico will be polluted with hundreds of tons of volatile nuclear waste, killing off all wildlife in the area and ruining new growth, and the entire Southeastern quarter of the state will be inhabitable for centuries to come. However, there are preventive measures that government officials can take to help minimize the damage.
Will our governor lead us in the right direction? Or will Franklin, Feliciana, Caddo, and Lafourche become the next Chernobyl?
