Mascot Mayhem

The 2024 session of LABS has shown to be a competitive one. Rivalries of all types have sprung up, and it has been proven that even our beloved mascots aren’t safe. Mississippi Parish has taken a jab at their fellow Parishes, first claiming Atchafalaya’s mascot and second claiming Bogafalaya’s mascot. Shockingly enough, the culprit, Andrew LeBlanc, from Lafourche, was responsible for both of the mascot disappearances. LeBlanc states that he would “100% do it again,” and that he had a preference for the mascot that “stuck out the most.”

In response to Mississippi’s actions, many other parishes have began plotting their own ways to get their hands on an esteemed mascot, as losing one is a hard blow to confidence. While mascot thievery has long been a tradition of LABS, some unspoken rules of courtesy are observed as well. Keeping the mascot intact with all parts and props attached is seen as a standard of respect, as well as returning the mascot in a timely manner. The ignoring of these unspoken rules has led to rising tension among cities and parishes. With that being said, be sure to protect your mascots from prying hands.
