The Leaders of Boys State

Former LABS Governor JC Fontenot

Here at Northwestern, all the citizens come together with the common goal of completing their week at Boys State. Some Citizens are here simply for the experience, but many are here with hopes of boosting their fast-approaching political careers. With this being said, there have been many governmental figures that once attended Boys State and have had remarkable careers following their Boys State experience. Below is a small sample of these political officials that participated in the Boys State program.

  • James Carville has been an author, a teacher, and even an actor. However, after entering politics, he became a successful consultant and contributor in Bill Clinton’s presidential win against George H.W. Bush during the elections of 1992
  • John Breaux served in the House of Representatives from 1972 to 1987. He continued his political career by joining the United States Senate and served there from 1987 to 2005.
  • David Vitter succeeded John Breaux by joining the United States Senate in 2005 and continued to serve until 2017.
  • Buddy Roemer was elected into the United States House of Representatives in 1981 and served for seven years. Mr. Roemer then became Louisiana State Governor in 1988 and served until 1992.
